Family afternoon and curator guided tour of the special exhibition "Toilet & Co. - Sanitary ceramics from the outhouse to the high-tech Toilet" on 17 September 2023 at Porzellanikon Selb.

On Sunday, 17 September 2023, two events will take place in the special exhibition " Toilet & Co. - sanitary ceramics from the outhouse to the high-tech toilet" at Porzellanikon - State Museum for Porcelain, Selb.

If you want to do something together with your family, the family afternoon under the motto "Colourful little toilets" is just the thing for you. The joint event for young and old begins at 2:30 pm with a tour of the special exhibition, during which the unusual, colourful, historical toilets are presented, which look very unusual and then serve as inspiration for the creative part of the family afternoon. During the entertaining and amusing tour through the exhibition, the young and old museum guests also learn how kings and emperors used to go to the toilet and what toilets look like in outer space. Then it's time to get creative: the participants paint small toilet bowls with bright colours and turn the quiet toilet into a colourful little place. The family afternoon is suitable for children aged 6 and over and takes place every third Sunday of the month with different themes. Price: 3,00 Euro material costs.

For individual visitors, a curator's tour at 15:00 with art historian Dr des. Joana Mylek through the special toilet exhibition is ideal. The curator leads the tour in an amusing, relaxed and knowledgeable manner and reveals many funny, bizarre and interesting facts on the discovery tour of the cultural history of the toilet. She is happy to answer questions such as: how did people go to the toilet before the invention of flushing and how did the "quiet little place" develop into a wellness oasis over the course of time? What challenges do astronauts face in space and what do toilets in prisons and motorway service stations have in common? At the end of the tour, the curator explains in the taboo room (admission from 18 years) whether and which taboos exist with regard to sexuality and toilets.

Price: 3.50 euros for the guided tour.

For both events, adults pay an additional €1.00 Sunday admission; children up to the age of 18 are free. To register, visit besuchercenter@porzellanikon.org or call +49 9287 918000.
