Seniors' afternoon at the Porzellanikon

Seniors who have a passion for porcelain from the 18th century can meet on 18 January 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for an afternoon for seniors at Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger. Under the title "White Gold - Everyday Life at Court", they will learn interesting facts about valuable porcelain treasures and courtly life. A tour of the permanent exhibition will take them to the porcelains from the 18th century. Using various porcelain objects, museum educator Nadine Zentgraf provides concise and vivid information about the lifestyle of this era. Collectors such as Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland even presented porcelain in their own palace. Porcelain figures, for example, provide information about the clothing of the time. Cups, plates or centrepieces provide insights into table culture and hairstyles that rose like little towers on the heads of the ladies reveal the beauty trend of the time. But the men's world also adorned itself with fine porcelain: for example, gentlemen had to own several tabatiéres (small porcelain tobacco boxes) to demonstrate that they were "en vogue".

After the tour, the workshop begins, with a porcelain expert showing participants how to paint their own porcelain tableware. Afterwards, the senior citizens can get together for coffee and cake, exchange ideas with each other and with the museum team, and round off the afternoon in a cosy atmosphere. The next event will take place on 15 March 2023.

The senior afternoons deal with changing topics and last about 2 hours. The price is €10.00 plus museum admission per person and includes a guided tour, creative programme, coffee and cake. Please register at besuchercenter@porzellanikon.org or call +49 9287-918000.
