Christmas time - museum time. Opening hours at Porzellanikon over the holidays!

The Porzellanikon - State Museum for Porcelain, Selb and Hohenberg a.d. Eger offers plenty of variety over the festive period. The museum is open to visitors every day from 10:00 to 17:00 over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Both museums are closed on 24 and 31 December 2023.

If you would like to experience porcelain production up close, you can take part in the public guided tours at Porzellanikon Selb entitled "Porcelain factory on public holidays" on 25 and 26 December 2023 and on 1 and 6 January 2024, both at 14:00. All early risers can join the porcelain trip on 6 January 2024 at 10:30 am. Together with the museum team, museum guests will discover the historic factory building and the exhibition on porcelain production at Europe's largest museum for porcelain. The live demonstrations on the steam engine, drum mills and in the whiteware production area are particularly exciting for visitors of all ages.

The Porzellanikon in Hohenberg a.d. Eger is also open during the public holidays. On 1st and 6th January 2024, the museum is offering a public guided tour on the cultural history of porcelain entitled "Fabrikantenvilla am Feiertag". The former manufacturer's villa of C.M. Hutschenreuther is home to impressive porcelain. It proves to be a timeless eye-catcher with a unique history. For visitors who do not wish to take part in a guided tour, there are many new things to discover at the Hohenberg site: the HGM collection, which was bequeathed to the museum by a Hamburg collector couple, was recently exhibited. The exhibition mainly shows products from the Meissen manufactory such as services, vases and figurines from 1950 to the present day. A small Christmas exhibition presents museum guests with marvellous Christmas decorations from the companies Goebel, Villeroy & Boch, Hutschenreuther and others from the last 30 years. In the study collection, the exhibits on display are illuminated by a new colour concept. The displays in the permanent exhibition from the 18th to 20th centuries also invite visitors to take a moment to relax and contemplate.

Admission to the museum in Selb is 5 euros/reduced 4 euros; in Hohenberg a.d. Eger 3 euros/reduced 2 euros or as a combined ticket 6.50 euros/reduced 5 euros. Admission on Sunday is 1,-- Euro. Admission is free for children and young people up to the age of 18. Sufficient car parking spaces are available at both locations.
