Finissage of the special exhibition "Luxury, wellness, porcelain - A day at the Bohemian spa" at Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger on 15 October 2023, 11:00 to 17:00

The special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa" at Porzellanikon - State Museum for Porcelain, Hohenberg a.d. Eger is coming to an end. On Sunday, 15 October 2023, it will end with a finissage that offers one last opportunity to experience a spa stay at the end of the 19th century. Always present: magnificent Bohemian porcelain. The Porzellanikon invites you to enjoy the following programme on this last visitor day: At 11:00 a.m., museum guests can immerse themselves in everyday life at the spa during the costume tour "Sisi on a cure". The most famous Austrian Empress Elisabeth, known as "Sisi", travelled to Bohemia for a cure to recuperate, but also to see and be seen. Those who want to get creative can then design their own soap at 1.00 p.m. to match the theme of the special exhibition using colour, fragrance, glitter and various shapes, which can then be wrapped as a gift. At 14:00, guests have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour with curator Thomas Miltschus and see the special exhibition one last time over champagne and canapés.

As the first solo exhibition on Bohemian porcelain in Germany, the special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa" took place from 1 April to 15 October 2023 with a wide range of cultural events and guided tours. It was Porzellanikon's contribution to the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Weeks 2023. "It was a great honour for us to even welcome Czech President Petr Pavel as a guest of honour to our exhibition," says Anna Dziwetzki, Director of Porzellanikon. "I am particularly pleased that we have succeeded in organising an exhibition that tells a story. It is the story of a day at the Bohemian spa, in which our visitors are immersed as spa guests. The special exhibition architecture and atmosphere have delighted both the general public and the experts," says the director.

Numerous visitors came to see the luxurious porcelain from Bohemia, whose splendour and beauty was so appreciated by high society from all over Europe. In addition to the fine porcelain, the hands-on stations at the special exhibition in Hohenberg were particularly popular. Whether writing cards with pen and ink, drinking healing water from various springs or taking a snapshot in historical costumes - all these activities attracted the most attention from museum visitors. The special exhibition offered insights into the former spa system of the Bohemian spas, while the way the porcelain from Bohemia was presented was an experience in itself. The special exhibition is a joint project with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (Uměleckoprůmyslové museum v Praze) and the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Západočeské muzeum v Plzni) and will subsequently be on display at both of these locations.
