Opening of the touring exhibition "DenkMal Hochfranken" of ArchitekturTreff Hochfranken

On Friday, 16 June 2023, the travelling exhibition "DenkMal Hochfranken" opened in the Porzellanikon - State Museum of Porcelain, Selb. For this, ArchitekturTreff Hochfranken documented 65 listed buildings with their unique architecture. "The location of the special exhibition was cleverly chosen by the initiators," said opening speaker and museum director Anna Dziwetzki. The former walls of Zeidler's porcelain factory, which later belonged to Philipp Rosenthal, now house the Porzellanikon in Selb. The new use means that the historic substance is preserved for posterity. The permanent exhibition on porcelain production in Selb was developed to match the existing structural conditions and thus conveys vivid impressions of the conditions prevailing at the time. Porzellanikon is thus both a venue for events and a participant in the "DenkMal Hochfranken" project.

In his speech on the "courage-making projects" from the travelling exhibition, architect Gerhard Plaß showed material pictures of the architectural monuments in Thiersheim, Vielitz and Wölsauerhammer. "Stone, brick, plaster, wood, metal, glass, textile, furniture and technology are interchangeable placeholders for the material quality of monuments in space and time," said Plaß. The region's listed buildings present themselves in overwhelming colours and shapes and reflect the ingenuity of their builders. Such listed buildings also inspire Carsten Hentschel, second mayor of the city of Selb, who welcomed visitors on the occasion of the opening. The selected buildings show highlights as well as processes of change and tell the story of Upper Franconia in different ways. Marion Resch-Heckel, member of the State Monuments Council and former vice-president of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, thanked the donors without whom such renovations would not have been possible. Peter Kuchenreuther, head of ArchitekturTreff Hochfranken, emphasised the work of the craftsmen and women, "without whom a project would not be possible at all".

The highlights of successful restoration in the region were immortalised in the book "DenkMal Hochfranken. Exemplary Restorations". An expert jury selected the most beautiful "courageous objects" in consultation with the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and the lower monument protection authorities, and the author Enrico Santifaller and the Bamberg photographers Gerhard Schlötzer and Gerhard Hagen set the scene for the buildings. ArchitekturTreff Hochfranken has been committed to the architectural identity of the region for years and shows how old industrial monuments are adapted to new tasks. The original charm of a building is preserved and great care is taken to conserve its actual condition. The architectural quality of the region can be visited from 17 June to 18 August 2023 as part of the travelling exhibition at Porzellanikon in Selb.Porzellanikon SelbWerner-Schürer-Platz 195100 SelbPhone: +49 9287 91800-0visitor service(at)porzellanikon.orgOpening hoursTuesday - Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Public holidays 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Closed on MondaysAdmission pricesSelb 5,00 € / 4,00 € reducedCombination ticket with Porzellanikon Hohenberg 6,50 € / 5,00 € reducedAdmission on Sundays always only 1,00 €, children up to 18 years free of charge
