AROUND 1,000 VISITORS AT THE FIRST PORCELAIN MARKET OF PORZELLANIKON IN HOHENBERG A.D. EGER


Porzellanikon - Staatliches Museum für Porzellan can look back on a successful first porcelain market at the Hohenberg a.d. Eger site, which took place on the weekend of July 31- August 1.

The porcelain market was all about modern, young porcelain and extraordinary design. 14 porcelain artists from Germany and the Czech Republic, selected by a jury, presented and sold their current works in the atmospheric ambience of the museum garden and the staged exhibition rooms. The spectrum of the works on offer, all made of porcelain, ranged from noble table services and practical utensils to decorative items and pieces of jewellery.

A total of around 1,000 visitors came to Porzellanikon on Saturday July 31 and Sunday August 1, to look at the stands and to buy. "The interest in our first porcelain market was huge. We would not have dared to dream of such a high number of visitors. We are very happy about it. Even the mixed weather on Sunday did not dampen the flow of visitors," says Dr Jana Göbel, chief curator and head of the EU Projects, Digitisation and 21st Century Collection department, who was responsible for the project. According to Göbel, the exhibitors also drew a positive conclusion: "The exhibitors were very satisfied and are looking forward to being invited back for the next porcelain market."

The porcelain market at Porzellanikon in Hohenberg a.d. Eger is to be continued on an annual basis and established as a market for contemporary, modern porcelain on the last weekend in July. The planned date for the second edition is the weekend of July 30 - July 31, 2022. Participation is preceded by an application procedure and a subsequent selection by an expert jury. selection by an expert jury of artists, designers, connoisseurs and teachers in the porcelain industry.

The jury also awards a jury prize to one of the porcelain artists participating in the porcelain market. This year's jury prize went to Angelika Krauß (Angelika Krauß KERAMIK) from Velden in Central Franconia. Next year, she will have the opportunity to show her work in a small exhibition, a so-called studio exhibition, at the Porzellanikon in Hohenberg a.d. Eger. The studio exhibition is planned for the period of the "Weeks of White Gold", which will take place from the beginning of July to mid-August 2022.

Visitors to the porcelain market were also invited to participate in the awarding of a public prize. They could tick their favourite on a form. The majority of votes went to the Czech artist Nela Havlíčková (Nela Porcelán) from Mariánské Lázně. She was able to enjoy prize money of 500 euros.

This year's porcelain market was also an important part of the EU project "CerDee" (Creative entrepreneurship in ceramic regions - Developing, educating, encouraging). Porzellanikon is the lead partner of this project and has set itself the task of networking and supporting creative players.
