MUSEUM INSTEAD OF "WIESENFEST": PORZELLANIKON MAKES PROGRAM

Although the Selber Wiesenfest will not take place this year, Porzellanikon - Staatliches Museum für Porzellan at its location in Selb will offer all event-hungry visitors an attractive program of events with short guided tours, demonstrations and participateion programs. Thus, all the people of Selb together with their guests can spend entertaining and amusing hours in the museum on the Wiesenfest weekend on July 10 and 11, 2021 - according to the motto: "Museum instead of Wiesenfest".

Short guided tours During guided tours of the "Porzellinerleben" exhibition, visitors will learn how the porcelain workers used to celebrate the renowned Wiesenfest and what their lives were like in and outside the porcelain factory. Wolfgang Schilling, chief curator, and Kathleen Klötzer, an expert in industrial history, will explain to all those hungry for knowledge why the factory director decided who could marry whom, what penalties were imposed for being late to work, and who liked to "make blue". They will provide exciting insights into the lives of porcelain workers over 100 years ago. These tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm respectively.

Fans of Rosenthal porcelain will have the opportunity to learn from curator and Rosenthal expert Petra Werner at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on both days what makes Rosenthal porcelain such a myth. Visitors will learn adventurous facts about the life of Philip Rosenthal, who was very adept at attracting the greatest artists to himself and his company. Petra Werner will explain, among other things, what an airplane propeller has to do with the flower pattern of an Italian fashion designer.

Demonstrations
The popular live porcelain-making demonstrations will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on both days. Former porcelain makers will show all interested visitors how, for example, a sugar bowl is made from a very popular Rosenthal service. As an additional highlight, on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. the large steam engine, the former heart of the factory, will be set in motion - a great, unique and noisy experience for young and old.

Participation programs
Hobby archaeologists can explore the earth in front of the museum building for porcelain relics during "shard digging" starting at 11:00 a.m. each day and, if successful, take their treasures home as souvenirs (please bring gloves for this program). Those with a more artistic bent can get creative with porcelain painting. Porcelain pieces for painting will be available for purchase on site.

Food and drink will also be provided. For those who feel inspired to buy porcelain after visiting Porzellanikon, we recommend a visit to the outlet centers of Selb on Saturday. These are the Rosenthal Outlet Center and the OCS - Outlet Center Selb. By the way, a visit to the museum always pays off there, as showing the admission ticket ensures a shopping advantage.

The museum is open on both days from 10:00 a.m. - 17:00 p.m.. Registration is not necessary. Visitors pay the usual museum admission price and, depending on the program, material costs. Wearing an FFP2 mask throughout the museum grounds, as well as adhering to the minimum distance and regular hygiene regulations, remains mandatory.
