Successful start to the new special exhibition at Porzellanikon - State Museum of Porcelain in Hohenberg a.d. Eger

Since 1 April 2023, Porzellanikon - State Museum of Porcelain has been attracting many guests to Hohenberg a.d. Eger with its new special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa". The exhibition is Porzellanikon's contribution to the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Weeks and a joint project with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (Uměleckoprůmyslové museum v Praze) and the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Západočeské muzeum v Plzni). The show presents selected pieces from international collections and demonstrates the splendour of Bohemian porcelain and its unique quality. "We are thrilled by the great and consistently positive response of the museum's guests," enthuses Anna Dziwetzki, director of Porzellanikon. She is particularly pleased about the exhibition's nationwide recognition: "Some visitors have travelled more than 300 km to experience our exhibition!" Chief curator Thomas Miltschus is thrilled by the warm entries of the museum visitors in the guest book and the many creatively designed porcelain paintings at the hands-on station. This, he says, is the greatest reward for him personally! The exhibition is open until 15 October 2023.

Water, wellness and health also play an important role in the second special show at Porzellanikon. From 13 May 2023, Europe's largest museum for porcelain will be presenting the history of the "quiet lavatory" at its Selb site with "Klo & Co. Sanitärkeramik vom Plumpsklo bis zur Hightech-Toilette". With witty anecdotes, surprising explanations of idioms and bizarre stories from everyday life, it deals in an entertaining way with a subject that we usually only talk about behind closed doors. With its holdings of sanitary ceramics from a wide range of epochs, Porzellanikon Selb offers the perfect place to finally give the "quiet little toilet" the attention it deserves. Extraordinary exhibits such as a space urinal or Empress Sisi's bidet - to name but a few - await visitors. With a combination ticket, both museum locations can be experienced in one day.
