Finissage of the special exhibition "More than Bricks! Tradition and Future of Architectural Ceramics" on 3.10.2022 at Porzellanikon Selb

With a grand finissage on Monday, 3 October 2022 at 2:30 pm, the special exhibition "More than Bricks! Tradition and Future of Architectural Ceramics" at Porzellanikon Selb will come to an end. As a reminder of the special exhibition on architectural ceramics, a large mural made of porcelain will be unveiled in front of the entrance façade of Porzellanikon in Selb.

Director Anna Dziwetzki is enthusiastic about the special show: "The everyday relevance of the exhibition fascinated the visitors. Architectural ceramics can be seen everywhere. And the presentation of the exhibition was unique - one of the most beautiful exhibitions I have ever personally experienced." Curator Thomas Miltschus agrees: "It was the design in combination with the numerous hands-on stations that made the exhibition so attractive and special. Visitors of all ages felt at home and had a lot of fun."

A large-scale reminder of the special exhibition will remain permanently at Porzellanikon: It is probably Europe's largest porcelain lithophane. It was created by porcelain designer Barbara Flügel from Schönwald, who also makes architectural ceramics. In future, the backlit mural made of porcelain tiles will embellish the entrance to Porzellanikon. "We are taking the finissage as an opportunity to celebrate the unveiling and thus the inauguration of the porcelain mural together with the visitors," informs the curator. He also informs how the idea of the porcelain lithophane came about: "The plan was to present an architectural ceramic by Barbara Flügel in the exhibition." "Why not set up something in front of the museum?" was then the idea of the designer from Schönwald. A mural made of porcelain would fit both the exhibition theme and the porcelain museum as a whole. "The motif now already shows from the outside what visitors can expect inside," Barbara Flügel explains.

The finissage begins in the special exhibition at the Mokka Bar at 2:30 pm. The curator will take participants on several short tours of the special exhibition, which will be on view for the last time on 3 October 2022. In a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and canapés, there will be the opportunity to talk to each other and to porcelain designer Barbara Flügel. The event will conclude with the ceremonial unveiling of the designer's mural.

The price includes admission to the museum, snacks and drinks.
